How does Grandma (GiGi, Mena) always know where to find the best shells?
Some of her grandchildren’s earliest memories revolve around shelling with her. No matter how many times they walked that beach before, they never found shells like they did with Grandma. How did she always know where and when to find them?
Well…she would find the best shells that she had in her house and stick them in a pocket. Walking just ahead of them, she would stealthily drop them in their path. She experienced enormous pleasure from seeing the joy and wonder on their faces with every find.
May you always go out of your way to bring a smile to someone’s face.
PopPop always found great joy in laughter.
If PopPop was around, there was laughter. Plain and simple. He could tell the best stories and deliver a joke better than anyone. However, when the children were small, he found great delight in bouncing a child on his knee and singing an Irish drinking song, or two.
His favorite song to sing was “Rye Whiskey,” but as any truest who listens to this recording will see, he changed the lyrics over time. It didn’t matter, the children would never know. All they knew was that their PopPop was the one who could make them non-stop giggle.
May you always find a way to laugh, even through pain.
